If we publish something wrong, we want to fix it fast and visibly. This page sets out exactly what happens when you flag an error, and what you can expect from us.

1. How to flag an error

If you can, point to the specific URL, the specific sentence, and either a Tier-1 source (CanLII, an Alberta statute, Government of Alberta, Statistics Canada) or an explanation of what is wrong. You do not need to be a lawyer to flag a problem.

2. What we promise

  • 24-hour acknowledgment. A human will reply within one business day to confirm we have your report.
  • 72-hour decision. Within three business days we will either publish a correction, retract the article, or explain in writing why we believe the original is accurate.
  • Visible correction notice. Corrected articles carry a dated “Correction:” note at the top of the page, stating what was wrong and what we changed.
  • Retraction is real. If an article cannot be saved by a correction, it is retracted: replaced with a short notice explaining why, with the original URL preserved. We do not silently delete.

3. What gets corrected vs. retracted

  • Correction: a factual slip, an out-of-date number, a citation that has been superseded, a typo that changes the meaning.
  • Retraction: a structural error that cannot be fixed with a sentence — for example, an article built around a misread case, a procedure that no longer exists, or a settlement band we cannot support.
  • Clarification: when the original wording was technically defensible but could mislead a reasonable reader. We add a clarifying line and date it.

4. What we will not do

  • We will not silently edit a live article to hide a mistake.
  • We will not retract an article because a firm or insurer asked us to, absent a factual reason.
  • We will not replace a citation to a primary source with a citation to a firm’s marketing page.

5. Public log

Corrections and retractions are logged at the bottom of each affected article with the date, the change made, and the source that prompted it. If a correction affects more than one article, it is also listed here once the change log is built out.
